Before the invitation, the announcement. A champagne envelope, sealed in gold wax, dissolves into a watercolour storybook: a castle on a lake, the two of you dancing on the shore, and a pair of swans that meet in a heart. Then your guests have to do something for the date: scratch it away with a fingertip, and there it is. It is a small, physical moment on a glass screen, and it is why people reply to a save the date instead of forgetting it. Send it while the full invitation is still taking shape; the diary gets marked either way.
